Truly fear-free dentistry with mercury-free fillings
(and more … for your utmost safety and peace of mind!)
At No Fear Dentistry, we understand that truly approachable and accessible dental care does not produce additional fears, stresses, or concerns. We appreciate that the dental materials, technologies, and techniques that we use should not be an extra source of concern. For this reason, our owner, Dr. David Ducommun has carefully selected all of the materials used at both of our locations. These materials have been vetted for their safety, biocompatibility, durability, and overall efficacy.
Notably, we use non-toxic, highly cosmetic, and strong mercury-free dental fillings. These fillings are typically formulated with composite resin, which is compatible with natural tissues and can be color-matched to blend in with the appearance of the surrounding tooth structure and the neighboring natural teeth.
We are a proud “mercury-safe” provider, meaning we have attained certification from the International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology (IAOMT) in the safe removal of mercury amalgam fillings. The SMART technique involves investments in equipment, supplies, and training in special techniques developed to minimize exposure to mercury particles and vapors while removing mercury-containing metal (amalgam) fillings.
Conventional processes generally release mercury into the treatment room and environment at higher levels. Traditional techniques have posed threats to the health and safety of our patients, staff, communities, and waterways. By committing ourselves to mercury-safe practices, we safeguard the health and wellness of the patients and communities we call “home.”
Just a few of the many safeguards within the SMART process are listed as follows:
- Patients and our staff alike wear protective garments to prevent mercury particles from getting on their clothing.
- Specialized tools and products, such as an activated charcoal rinse, are used to prevent patients from swallowing small pieces of mercury (or from inhaling mercury released as vapor).
- We maintain fresh air replacement at all times to ensure the safety and quality of the air for all occupants, patients, and our teams.
- Proper mercury removal, evacuation, and disposal techniques are used to prevent the toxin from entering our waterways and environment.
So, as you can see, maintaining safety and health is not limited to being “mercury-free” for No Fear Dentistry. Our teams are also “mercury-safe” by supporting the many services and capabilities that ensure replacing those fillings does not result in unpleasant side effects or additional health and safety threats.
